This is the Arctic Grayling Fish-On Pendant.
This species was once native to northern Michigan (near me), but went extinct due to lumbering and over fishing in the last century. Efforts are now under way to plant them back in the rivers and streams in Northern Michigan. It is still found in a few places within the United States. There are small populations of it out west and you can find it in pretty good abundance in Alaska. It is also found in Scotland.
The unusual shaped, colorful dorsal fin is what is the unique feature of this species.
The bale is created by a wire wrap mimicking the fly line coming from the side of the fish’s mouth and curling up and soldered to the back of the dorsal fin. The line then curves upwards and coils around the cord or chain of your choice.
The new option is the Highlighted version. I use the black enamel paint over the fish to bring out the details of the carved etchings of this species. I feel it adds more depth and character.
It is available without a chain or cord if you choose to use your own. I offer it on a 3mm plain or braided black leather cord and a 2.5mm Sterling Silver snake chain.
All gold orders need min 2 weeks.
